Ugly Betty a hit at Golden GlobesUgly Betty a hit at Golden GlobesSalma's dog saved her life on the day of the Golden Globe Awards.

Salma fell asleep in her home when her dog, Diva, alerted her to a gas leak in the house.

Salma told Us Weekly magazine: “I had a headache and went to lie down when Diva woke me up grabbing my sleeve in her mouth and trying to pull me out of the house. Then I realized the gas was on!”

Later that day, Salma's hit tv show, Ugly Betty, cemented its position as US television's biggest new hit. It did so by winning two awards at the 2007 Golden Globes ceremony.

Geena Davis and James Woods announced Ugly Betty as the winner of the award for Best Television Series - Musical Or Comedy, and the show's entire cast made their way on to the stage.

The tv show's star, America Ferrera, was subsequently awarded a solo moment on stage when she received the award for Best Actress In A Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

Ferrera said she hears every day from girls who are fans of her unsophisticated, yet endearingly genuine, portrayal of fashion magazine assistant Betty Suarez. She also said, "I'd just like to say thank you to Salma for seeing how ugly I was."
